Ballarat's housing stock runs from goldfields-era brick and bluestone through to 70s and 80s brick veneer, most of it sitting on reactive clay and exposed to real seasonal swings. Limewash is a mineral coating, not a plastic film. It lets the wall breathe, which matters on older brick where trapped moisture is what actually causes damage.
It also ages the way the brick underneath ages, softening and shifting tone over years rather than peeling in sheets the way an acrylic exterior paint eventually does.
